Biometric technology in the evolution of security systems: the case of Bosch and RecFaces
Bosch Security and Safety Systems, which is a part of the international Bosch group of companies, and RecFaces, a Russian developer of ready-made biometric solutions for business, have announced the successful integration of Id-Guard biometric software product with Bosch Video Management System (BVMS).
The project was a significant step in the evolution of security systems, a precondition for which is the search for solutions to the problems faced by the industry's growing customer needs.
Bosch Video Management System (BVMS) is the complete, multi-functional, enterprise-class video surveillance solution Bosch delivers the response to market demands for resilient and scalable video surveillance. Facilities such as factories, utilities and fuel, energy systems need to be up and running 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This is also a requirement for video surveillance systems. In airports, camera breakdowns or problems with the recording and playback of video risk causing disruptions and massive flight delays. Thanks to its intelligent system architecture, BVMS provides maximum fail-safety by delivering uninterrupted live video and playback capabilities without regard to failure. For example, with the BVMS in a metro system, even if communication lines are disconnected or system components fail, the control center will not be disrupted. The BVMS also offers a wide range of scalability and upgrade options.
The solution allows you to build a centralized or distributed video surveillance management and recording system for up to 200,000 cameras. BVMS includes built-in cold and hot stand-by mechanisms and has no single point of failure as a central server. An API and SDK are available for integration with other security systems. Bosch's innovative range of cameras working jointly with BVMS solves virtually all types of industrial, fuel and transport infrastructure security problems. But each industry or a specific market has its own unique needs. One of these is facial biometrics. Today, the implementation of facial recognition in security systems is not an abstract «technology of the future», but a standard requirement for orders from the public, commercial and industrial sectors. For instance, The introduction of biometric identification is a legal responsibility of the facility owners for ensuring security at airports and stadiums.
Id-Guard by RecFaces is a- customized product for BVMS
Despite having already established a partnership with Israeli biometric solutions market leader AnyVision to meet Russian customers' biometric needs, Bosch and Russian developer RecFaces, which specializes in creating ready-made box solutions based on facial recognition technology, have reached an agreement on cooperation. The companies had previously implemented integration of the Id-Gate biometric solution with the Bosch Building Integration System. This cooperation resulted in the integration of this facial recognition module with the BVMS operation by integrating Id-Guard, a specialized software product for video surveillance systems.
The Id-Guard biometric solution with face recognition has its own well-designed interface with a wide range of functions and the option of flexible setting of the notification policies of each camera. Id-Guard allows not only to effectively create stop lists and rapidly detect a person of interest, but also to build a path for his movements around the facility. There is a possibility of quick search in the biometric archive with ranking by date, time and surveillance area to investigate incidents. By uploading a person's photo, a video recording of their movements can be obtained in seconds. With the help of the installer, the setup of the ready-made solution takes only 20 minutes. Finally, Id-Guard has a wide API for integration.
As part of the Id-Guard and BVMS integration, all the functions and features of the biometric solution were seamlessly integrated into the interface and workstation of the BVMS. From a practical application point of view, this implementation format, which combines the functionality of the two solutions on the same workplace, allows for the most effective operation of the system, improving response time. At the same time, the facial recognition function can not only boost new implementations, but also upgrade previously installed and already operating BVMS facilities. This is an optimal approach for Bosch, both for the company and for the customers of BVMS, allowing regular updates and professional technical support to be provided during the whole period of operation. It should also be noted that Id-Guard by RecFaces is a Russian product that complies with all the requirements for biometric technology imposed by the Russian state authorities.
Facial recognition and the evolution of security systems
Biometrics is becoming more and more widespread in daily life. The media often describes the spread of biometric technology as a revolution. However, in reality this is a process of evolution. Security systems are constantly improving, adapting to new challenges and changing customer needs. The introduction of facial recognition technology is a logical and important step in the chain of these transformation. Integration of BVMS with Id-Guard is an example of cooperation between the two companies, designed to bring a modern technological tool for optimal transition to a new level of the on-site security. The success of this solution is confirmed by the interest shown by customers from various sectors. In just six months since the project was launched, pilot projects of the comprehensive solution have been initiated at several airports, the fuel and energy sector and major banks, both in Russia and abroad.
Russian company RecFaces is a developer of ready-made biometric software based on facial recognition, adapted to meet specific tasks and needs of various industries. RecFaces software products can be easily integrated with existing on-site video surveillance, access control, CRM and other systems.
