Ready-made biometric solution Id-Guard

Id-Guard is a software box product that enhances the functionality of classic video surveillance systems and increases security level at the site by identifying individuals in the video stream.

The installation of the solution takes no more than 20 minutes, so the customer’s specialists do not need extensive specialized knowledge or skills to deploy it. They just need to follow the simple step-by-step installation procedure described in the Administrator’s guide.

Seamless integration allows the operator to work quickly and easily within the familiar Pelco VideoXpert VMS interface.

When a person is detected in the surveillance area, Id-Guard identifies them by face. If the presence of a person in a specific zone is undesirable, the system automatically notifies security officers via SMS, messengers, email, or a mobile application on the Android platform.

To investigate incidents, Id-Guard provides long-term storage of biometric data, with the ability to quickly search for individuals in the archive by photo, video, or verbal description of facial features, such as a beard or glasses. The storage architecture is optimized for efficient disk space use. So, 50 million identification records take up only 1 TB, and searching for incidents takes no more than 10 seconds.

Crowded buildings and infrastructure represent some of the most promising areas for implementing Id-Guard. Facial recognition technology enhances the coordination and effectiveness of security services in these locations. The functionality of the stop and watch lists allows for:

  • zoning of the site
  • recording the appearance of unwanted individuals in specific areas
  • creating highly accurate movement routes
  • promptly responding to violations

Project development and solution

The mask regime, which applies to public places in Saudi Arabia, has presented a number of challenges for facial recognition. In order to ensure a high-quality and effective modernization of the video surveillance and identification system, the customer sought professional advice from the vendor.

To fully leverage the potential of an algorithm that uses only the visible parts of a face not covered by a mask for recognition, RecFaces took several consulting steps to optimize the system’s design and reconfigure the surveillance cameras.

All the necessary data were transferred remotely, and the configuration changes were implemented by the integrator company.

The customer also received both consulting and technical support from RecFaces. To train system operators and technicians, and to stay updated on the latest features and to functionalities of Id-Guard, the customer utilized online courses and training programs developed by the RecFaces team.

Benefits

Using the biometric software solution Id-Guard, the security service of the Saudi Arabia State Institution can identify visitors in real time, flagging individuals from a list of those undesirable for admission to the facility, or wanted by the country’s authorities for crimes.

To notify employees about the presence of such persons, the system provides automatic alerts, including via the tablet and phone application developed by RecFaces as part of the integration with Pelco VideoXpert VMS.

All instances of visitors entering the State Institution’s office are stored in the archive, with a search function available by photo, video, or verbal description. The archive interface allows for ranking episodes involving specific visitors to be sorted by date, time, and location. If needed, the system can also track the trajectory of movements of individuals of interest throughout the institution’s territory.

Results

Id-Guard continuously analyzes the video stream from cameras in the State Institution’s office, providing ongoing security monitoring at the facility. The software boasts an exceptionally low false positives rate of 0.0001%, or one false match per million facial recognition episodes.

Its extensive notification capabilities guarantee effective coordination among security personnel and a rapid response to incidents, providing both employees and visitors of the Saudi State Institution with enhanced safety.

As part of the project, an Id-Gate software has been installed at the checkpoint in test mode to increase throughput for incomung groups using biometric identification.

  1. The software module for face recognition activates a camera relay, which opens the barrier upon successfully identifying an employee’s face, thus granting vehicle access to the Saudi State Institution’s premises.
  2. The solution enhances both safety and convenience while aligning with the trend towards contactless identification and speeding up the process of entering the territory.
